Generating energy on land: a logical next step

The energy transition is in full swing. Demand for electricity is growing, the power grid is becoming more congested and regulations are changing rapidly. This raises important questions for farmers and landowners,. What does this development mean for my land? And how do I respond in a way that is sensible today, without making choices that may turn out wrong later?

Generating energy on your land is a logical next step. Not only to contribute to the energy transition, but also to keep control of the future of your land and your business. It’s not about speed. It is about making the right choices. Now and in future.

Why energy generation on land matters more than ever

Electric transport, heat pumps and the electrification of industry are creating an ever-increasing demand for electricity. At the same time we are phasing out the use of fossil fuels. This means that a lot of extra sustainable energy is needed. And that requires space.

In urban areas, that space is limited. In rural areas, however, there is space. The question is how to use it with care. But how do we use this space carefully? How do we ensure that energy generation is appropriate for the land, the environment and the people who live and work there?

It starts with collaboration. You, as a farmer or landowner, play an important role in this. Not as a quick fix for a problem, but as a stable factor in the energy system.

Generating your own energy is not “just a matter of installing solar panels”. We will work with you to explore the options and make future-proof choices that suit your land and the environment, with a focus on the long term.

What are the benefits of generating your own energy?

Many farmers and landowners are looking for certainty. By generating your own energy, you become less dependent on fluctuating energy prices and an overloaded electricity grid. This gives you peace of mind within your business and more predictability in the long term.

But that’s not all. Generating extra energy can provide an additional source of income. If you produce more energy than you consume, that energy can be used for the surrounding area or stored in a battery.

It is important that energy generation fits in with what already happens on your land. For example: panels above grassland where cows graze. Or as we do at Zonnepark Zeelandsedijk, where part of the land remains available for agriculture.

Energy on land requires long-term choices

Where does energy generation make sense? We don’t answer that question alone. Governments, grid operators, landowners and local residents are increasingly working together to decide which locations are suitable. At Novar, we look further than just today. What seems like an opportunity now, must still be an opportunity in twenty or thirty years’ time. For the land itself, for the environment and for future users.

From the outset, we therefore consider issues such as landscape integration, soil quality, ecology and grid connection. Local residents contribute their ideas, share in the process and sometimes also benefit. This creates support and prevents resistance.

Generating energy is therefore not an individual decision, but a joint step towards a future-proof landscape.

Smart use of land

Land can fulfil multiple functions at the same time. Agriculture and solar energy do not have to be mutually exclusive. Sometimes it makes sense to use less productive land for energy generation, so that other areas can be used for agriculture.

Smartly designed energy projects can even contribute to restoring soil quality and increasing biodiversity. This keeps the land valuable, even after an energy project has ended. Because energy generation is temporary. The land remains.

You don’t have to do it alone

Generating your own energy on the ground is quite complex. How does it work with permits, grid capacity, technology and changing regulations? The most important thing is: you don’t have to do it alone.

Novar brings clarity to an ever-changing energy world. We don’t just design solar parks, we look at how generation, storage and use together form a single energy system. We don’t focus on the quickest solution, but on a solution that continues to work. Even when markets, rules or subsidies change.

Together, we develop a customised solar system. Especially for farmers and landowners who want to become more sustainable and get a return on their land, without giving up ownership or control.

A choice that will still be right in the future

By generating your own energy, you make your business future-proof. You work with electricity from renewable sources and make a direct contribution to the energy transition.

The energy transition is not something that is being driven by “the government” or “the city”. It is happening on the land. Farmers and landowners are indispensable in making it happen.

For the land. For the environment. And for those who will use the land in the future.
