In the ‘Our Fixers’ series, we talk to colleagues about working at Novar. Everyone works in a different department, but we share one common goal: fixing the energy transition. In part 15, we speak with Matthieu Birba, Regional Manager for western France.
‘If I know we’re making the right decision, I want to move forward. We have a common goal to reach, so let’s do it.’
A year ago, Matthieu deliberately stepped out of his comfort zone. After working for a large company, he was ready for a new challenge.
‘I wanted to broaden my perspective, learn more about the business and develop new skills. At Novar, I also get the opportunity to help build our activities in France.’
Why Novar? ‘There was a clear vision for Novar in France, a plan and the energy to make it happen. That gave me a good feeling.’
Building something new
Since June 2025, Matthieu has been responsible for Novar’s projects in western France, working closely with Business Developers and Project Managers. He is also Office Manager for the Toulouse office.
‘In one morning, I can discuss the progress of a project, interview someone to grow our team and make decisions about our new office. I really enjoy switching between completely different subjects.’
That energy is also something Matthieu recognises in the people around him.
‘We have a plan, we know where we want to go and people are willing to make things happen. That really suits me.’
Finding the answer together
On some days, Matthieu has to make decisions on many different topics. His approach? Gather the right knowledge, make a decision and keep moving.
‘I don’t need to be the expert on everything. My colleagues are close to the projects and have the information we need. My job is to listen, ask the right questions and help us find the best way forward.’
For Matthieu, that is also what being a fixer is about.
‘A good fixer first understands the challenge and then finds the most suitable solution. I want to help people grow, share ideas and make sure we keep moving forward.’
It is a mindset he also recognises in Novar. ‘We look for opportunities and adapt quickly when something changes. Especially in the energy transition, that flexibility is essential.’
For the next generation
For Matthieu, working in renewable energy is personal too. He comes from Martinique, surrounded by greenery, beaches and nature.
‘I chose this kind of work because I want to do what I can to protect places like that for future generations.’
That motivation has become even stronger since becoming a father.
‘Spending time with my daughter is my priority outside work. Watching her grow and teaching her new things is what I enjoy most. It also helps me clear my mind.’
