Novar is actively working on the development of solar park Stoppelsoal – Burgum. All of this is being done in close cooperation with Enerzjy Groep Burgum.

The municipality of Tytsjerksteradiel is part of the Regional Energy Strategy (RES) Friesland. According to the policy outlined by the RES region of Friesland, the goal is to produce at least 3 TWh of renewable onshore energy by 2030. In addition, the municipality of Tytsjerksteradiel commissioned research into the future energy demand of Burgum and Noordburgum. To make both villages more sustainable, a development area of 47 hectares has been identified. With solar park Stoppelsoal – Burgum, we are making a significant contribution toward achieving these goals. We look forward to a positive decision-making process.
The planned location is situated along Koumarwei, near Burgum and Noordburgum. In addition, the future solar park borders the TenneT/Liander substation and the power plant in Burgum. The designated area is currently used as grassland.
Throughout the entire process, we work closely with Enerzjy Groep Burgum. This is a local energy cooperative that represents the interests of the surrounding community. The cooperative intends to become a 50% co-owner of the solar park. As a result, revenues from the solar park would flow back into the local area. The cooperative is currently conducting a detailed assessment to determine whether this step will indeed be taken.
No less than 40% of the planned area for the solar park will remain uncovered. In doing so, we significantly exceed the requirements of the ‘Code of Conduct for Solar Parks on Land’, which prescribes that at least 25% of the project area must remain uncovered.
In addition to input from local residents and the energy cooperative, organizations such as Landschapsbeheer Fryslân, the Frisian Environmental Federation, and Wetterskip Fryslân have been closely involved in multiple design sessions for the development of the solar park. Furthermore, Novar has placed strong emphasis on integrating the park into the surrounding landscape, while actively enhancing the ecological value within and around the project area. Recreational benefits have also been included, with a new cycling path being constructed through the solar park. Lastly, Novar will install an educational point with information about the solar park, the energy transition, and the ecological improvements being made.
Solar park Stoppelsoal – Burgum covers approximately 35 hectares and includes around 52,000 solar panels. This number of panels provides a generation capacity of 32 MWp. As a result, more than 10,000 households can be supplied with green energy each year!

At the end of May 2023, the permit application was submitted to the municipality of Tytsjerksteradiel. This brings us one step closer to the realization of the solar park.
