Transi’sun, a specialist in solar energy and agrivoltaic systems (Agri-PV), and Novar, a developer of green energy systems, have entered into a strategic partnership for the joint development of 127 megawatts of Agri-PV projects in France.
The partnership
The collaboration includes 77 megawatts of projects currently in the environmental assessment phase and 50 megawatts already under active development. The projects are being developed in close cooperation with local farmers in the departments of Creuse and Indre, combining energy production with agricultural activities such as cattle farming and crop cultivation.
“Together with Novar, we’re taking an important step toward a new agricultural model that balances food and energy production”, says Jérôme Greffier, President and Co-Founder of Transi’sun. “Our shared approach combines technical innovation with local engagement.”
Multifunctional use of space
What makes this partnership unique is that it aligns perfectly with the new French legislation introduced in April 2024, which officially recognizes Agri-PV installations as a legitimate and sustainable form of agricultural development. Whereas land was previously used either for agricultural production or for renewable energy generation, Agri-PV systems now make it possible to combine both functions intelligently. The solar panels protect crops and livestock from extreme weather conditions, reduce evaporation and heat stress, and simultaneously generate renewable energy. This dual function not only supports agricultural productivity but also contributes to the energy transition and enhances the economic resilience of farmers.
“This alliance with Transi’sun shows that the energy transition can go hand in hand with strengthening the agricultural sector”, adds Francisco Varela, Country Manager France at Novar. “We’re investing in projects that are locally rooted, sustainable, and contribute to France’s energy independence.”
The first installations resulting from this partnership are expected to begin construction in 2029, with progressive commissioning through 2030.
