Novar Germany opens a new office in Berlin

On January 1, 2026, Novar Germany opened a new office in Berlin. A modest space in size, but an important milestone in our development in Germany. Not because an office itself changes everything, but because it marks a clear next step: from building the foundation to strengthening long-term presence across the country.

Since entering the German market, Novar has focused on setting up the organisation, defining a clear strategy and developing the first projects. With the opening of the Berlin office, that foundation is extended geographically. It brings Novar closer to Eastern Germany and reinforces our intention to be present where projects are developed and decisions are made.

From presence to proximity

Germany is not one uniform market. Regional differences in grid capacity, land availability, industrial demand and political context strongly influence how projects take shape. Being physically close to those regions matters.

The Berlin office serves as a base for Eastern Germany, a region with strong momentum for renewable energy development and a growing need for flexible energy solutions. Demand for electricity continues to rise, while grid infrastructure is under pressure. This combination makes proximity, local knowledge and fast coordination increasingly important.

“We want to be close to the projects,” says Jan-Philip Dieck, Regional Manager Eastern Germany. “Opening an office in Berlin is a clear signal that Germany is a key market for Novar.”

Accessibility as a principle, not a coincidence

The Berlin office is located directly at Berlin Hauptbahnhof, the city’s central railway station. This is not a coincidence, but a deliberate choice.

Across all our locations, Novar actively encourages the use of public transport. As part of our ESG policy, we aim to make our offices as accessible as possible by train and public transport. This supports sustainable mobility, reduces emissions from commuting and makes collaboration easier across regions.

“Being next to the central station makes a real difference,” Jan-Philip explains. “You step off the train and you’re in the office within minutes.”

This approach applies to all Novar offices: accessibility by public transport is a key factor when selecting locations, both now and in the future.

Supporting the next phase of Novar Germany

The opening of the Berlin office reflects a broader shift within Novar Germany. The early phase was about setting things up: building the organisation, defining an origination strategy and securing the first projects. That phase required flexibility and a strong fixer mentality.

The focus is now gradually shifting towards scaling. Expanding the team, strengthening regional presence and accelerating project development across multiple areas.

“At the moment, the team in Berlin is still small,” says Jan-Philip. “But the idea is simple: as our work in the East grows, the office will grow with it.”

Thinking in systems, not standalone projects

One of the defining challenges in Germany is the condition of the electricity grid. In many regions, especially in the north and east, grid capacity has not kept pace with the rapid growth of renewables. This makes system integration increasingly important.

“We are thinking in integrated energy systems,” Jan-Philip explains. “If it’s technically possible, I would not plan a project without storage.”

By combining renewable generation with energy storage, projects become more flexible and resilient. This system-oriented approach aligns closely with the realities of the German market and is a key part of Novar’s strategy moving forward.

Building a local organisation

Opening an office is also about people. Novar Germany is actively building a local organisation that can operate with increasing independence and expertise.

In 2026, the German team is expected to grow further, with new roles in project development, project management and technical functions.

“We are looking for people who like building,” Jan-Philip says. “People who are comfortable with complexity and want to help shape projects from an early stage.”

A milestone that points forward

The Berlin office is not a finish line. It is a practical step that reflects where Novar Germany stands today and where it is heading next.

With offices in Munich and Berlin, Novar Germany continues to build a balanced presence across the country. Step by step, close to the market, and guided by a clear ambition: developing integrated energy solutions that fit the German context and contribute meaningfully to the energy transition.
